what patients want

Patients most commonly book in with a specific area of their face that they want to improve. Interestingly though, this isn't always the underlying cause of their dissatisfaction - but they don't know it!

As an example, look in the mirror yourself and have a quick look at your own face. Most people notice the obvious and distracting features such as some wrinkles or perhaps the heavier folds of the skin. But treating only the wrinkles or lines rarely improves the overall look of someones face and very commonly leads to disappointment. In some cases, it even leads to the area looking more heavy, 'unnatural' or older. Instead, we need to think of the lines as symptoms of an underlying and more complex aging process.

the MD Codes™

The MD Codes is a consultation and injecting strategy that treats patients differently. Dr Jake has used this system since 2017 and is currently being trained as an international expert in the technique to help teach other injectors. So what's different about this way of consulting and injecting?

Instead of asking you where want to be injected, it's important to first understand you as a person. What do you do for a job? Are you client-facing or at home behind a computer? Are you a conservative person who doesn't want anyone to know that you've had injectables? Or maybe you're the opposite and are looking for a complete transformation?

It might sound so obvious but unless your injector explores your emotional motivations for wanting to do a treatment, we only scratch the surface of your concerns and inappropriate treatments can easily be done. Understanding how you think about yourself and how you truly feel inside will help unlock the best way to treat you. It helps the creation a bespoke and holistic treatment plan that only ever addresses your needs.

your emotional attributes

Without smiling, have a look into the mirror again. If you're totally honest with yourself, do you see any signs of tiredness or perhaps you somehow look slightly sad or even angry in some way? ('RBF' is a real thing...!) Or maybe your face is rounder than it used to be? Perhaps you'd like to look a bit more feminine or what about looking more attractive or younger?

These types of aspirations are called 'emotional attributes' in the MD Codes and it gives Dr Jake clues to the areas and features of your face that may be included as part of an overall treatment plan. This approach ensures that your wants are aligned with your needs, rather than simply doing something arbitrary like 'bigger lips' or 'filling the nasolabial folds'.

In short, it's a patient-centric and tailored approach to facial aesthetics that gets to the bottom of why you sought out a treatment in the first place. Almost all patients will have two or more of the emotional attributes but there's no right or wrong and everyone is treated as an individual.

The emotional attributes can be grouped into four negatives and four positives:

Negative emotional attributes

I want to look less saggy

I want to look less tired

I want to look less angry

I want to look less sad

Positive emotional attributes

I want to look more contoured/slimmer

I want to look more feminine/masculine

I want to look more beautiful

I want to look younger
